The village occupies the site of Netherne Hospital, which opened in 1903 and closed in the mid-1990s after admissions had been in decline for decades.
A planned redevelopment
Reigate and Banstead Borough Council granted permission for housing on the site in 1994, and the scheme has grown since then to around 560 homes.
