A valley town on the North Downs
Caterham grew up along the A22, with the older part of the town, Caterham Valley, sitting below Caterham on the Hill, giving the town a distinctly layered feel as streets climb the downland slopes.
From barracks to housing
The former Guards barracks, built to house over a thousand men, closed in the 1990s and its parade grounds and blocks were converted into housing under an urban village scheme, adding a distinct pocket of the town with its own character and garage types.
